Miguel
Miguel Molina, nació en Azangaro, un pequeno pueblo ubicado en los Andes del sur de Peru.
Estudio Pintura en la Escuela Regional de Educación Artistica de Puno y posteriormente se traslado a Lima para continuar sus estudios en la Escuela Nacional de Bellas Artes del Peru, donde recibió formación clásica en Pintura de caballete, Pintura Mural y Ceramica. |
Biography of
Miguel
Born in the small Andean town of Azangaro, in the South of Peru, the artist Miguel Molina has been developing his craft for over three decades.
He began his formal studies in painting at Escuela Regional de Educación Artistica de Puno, and then transferred to Lima to continue. He was classically trained in Easel Painting, Mural Painting, and Ceramics.

Por otro lado motivado por la necesidad de obtener respuestas estéticas mas de acuerdo con su ancestral cultura Andina, se dedico particularmente a investigar en el arte popular de los pueblos indígenas y el arte precolombino de Peru; esta experiencia, mas la implicita formacion de su nines rodeado de colores, musica, danzas, mitos, leyendas y ritos ancestrales completaron su cosmovision, expresado en un lenguaje de simbolos Andinos fucionados con sinbologia universal.
Sus obras como ilustrador estan impresas en numerosas colecciones de libros, cuentos, CDs de musica, posters, etc. Podemos destacar las ilustraciones que realizo para la cubierta de CD Serenata Inkaterra que fue nominada al Grammy 2007 por diseno de portada y tambien el poster de la pelicula The Power of Food que gano el premio como ‘best short documentary’ en Hollywood International Family Film 2011, Los Angeles.
Molina llego a USA en Febrero del 2008 contratado por Disney para ofrecer un espectaculo de musica y danza nativa en Orlando Florida. Actualmente vive en Arizona, donde en Agosto del 2013 realizo una exposicion de acuarelas en la galeria Obsidiana de Tucson. |
Eager to find an aesthetic style that could be more in tune with his ancestral Andean cultural influences, Miguel specifically researched popular forms of art amongst Peru's native groups, and the region's pre-Columbian art in general. The sum of his experiences during this investigation - plus his own upbringing - imbedded in the regional colors, music, dance, myths, legends and ancestral rituals - make up his own cosmology: universal themes are expressed through an Andean symbolic language.
His work as an illustrator has been published in numerous books, stories, music album booklets, posters, and more. His most recognized work took the form of illustrations for the CD cover of "Serenata Inkaterra," as it was nominated for a Grammy Award in 2007. One of his poster designs was also part of another acclaimed project, "The Power of Food."
This film won best short documentary in the Hollywood Family Film Festival in 2011, in Los Angeles.
More recently, Miguel arrived in the U.S. in 2008 under contract with Disney, as part of a musical theatre production that featured Peruvian dance and musical forms. He currently resides in Tucson, Arizona, where he concluded his latest show of a watercolor series at The Obsidian Gallery. |

Empiezo con
un simple trazo que progresivamente se convierte en un rostro, un cuerpo, una mesa o un arbol, al rededor del cual se desarrolla la escena y esto a la vez me lleva por caminos inesperados, sorprendiendome
con sus apariciones inconcientes.
Al final mirando como frente a un espejo voy reconociendo la escena y agrego algunos elementos necesarios para completar el 'recuerdo.'
Símbolos ancestrales
de mi cultura y otras culturas se mezclan con las puertas que fui abriendo en la necesidad de encontrarme, influencia del arte pre-colonial, imagenes del mundo Andino, surrealista por excelencia, la superticion de sus habitantes y su sabiduria, la vida cotidiana y la espiritualidad, la exploracion de lo racional y la fantasia, la naturaleza, la alquimia, lo sobre natural, la reconciliacion de los opuestos, lo Mitico. Todo eso veo en el espejo y yo solo lo ordeno en colores y formas para compartirlo con usted en esta muestra. Si le conmueve, vuelva a mirar el espejo, talvez tenemos mucho en comun.

I begin with
a simple stroke, that progressively becomes
a face, a body, a table, or a tree – around which a scene develops.
This then takes me down unexpected paths, that present unconscious apparitions along the way.
Finally I see, as though in front of a mirror, I begin to recognize the scene and I add some indispensable elements in order to complete the 'memory.'
Ancestral symbols from my own culture and those of other cultures intermingle. As the need to find myself grew, I opened doors: the influence of pre-colonial art, the surrealist par excellence images of the Andean world, and the superstitions and wisdom of its inhabitants, daily life and spirituality, an exploration of the rational and the fantastical, nature, alchemy, the paranormal, the reconciliation of opposites,
the Mythical.
I see all of these things in the mirror.
I only give them an order, in colors and forms, so as to share it with the viewer. |
